The United Arab Emirates, represented by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), held a gala dinner at the headquarters of the ICAO in Montreal, Canada on 28th September 2019. Coincided with the 40th ICAO General Assembly Session, this glittering event celebrated the Awards ceremony of the 1st edition of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Aviation Awards. The US $ 1 million Award honors individuals and states who made significant contributions to the development of the aviation industry. The Award focuses on the quality of air transport infrastructure, aviation safety and security standards, cooperation and support within ICAO contracting States and the contributions of individuals. During his opening remarks to an enthusiastic audience of over 1000 guests from 193 contracting states, His Excellency Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori, Minister of Economy and the Chairman of GCAA said "the UAE is taking a new step by honoring aviation leaders who left an important impact in the industry that contributed to the growth and sustainability of the sector. Through the Award, we reaffirm the UAE’s commitment to ICAO’s strategic objectives and in particular, our support for the “No Country Left Behind” initiative."
